temu duga Tesl insitut pendidikan guru (IPG) 2017

assalamualaikum.

I made it to the phase 2 ( which also the last )of IPG interviews!!

I arrived at IPG Ipoh before 8 a.m. and went straight away to bilik menunggu. first thing I noticed is that sikit gila lelaki..okay xda kaitan sangat kan.. :p

lepastu ada briefing sikit dan rupanya tahun ni, ada perubahan sikit yang diorang buat berbandang dengan tahun-tahun sebelumnya. untuk tahun  ni, akan ada dua kali sesi..kalau dulu ada satu saja dimana korang akan ditemu duga dalam grup yang ada 6-7 orang. tapi sekarang, untuk tesl, dia upgrade sikit.

sekarang dia ada dua sesi iaitu :

• amali
• temuduga

aku terangkan pasal sesi ni satu satu okay..kita start dengan amali. kalau macam aku, aku start dengan amali dulu lepastu baru temuduga. the arrangement depends on the institute actually..ikutla diorang susun kau macam mana, sama ada kau kena amali dulu baru temuduga macam aku atau sebaliknya.

• AMALI

For amali, you'll be quarantined with your group in a room.you have to wait until it is your turn to go to bilik amali, as you are inside, there will be a person in charge to ask you questions. it's only you and that person in the room. nervous but make sure to manage it well. sit on the chair provided and you'll be given a paper with average 300 words essay written on it. you need to read the text silently for 5 minutes and when the time is up, the person will ask you 4 questions. some of the questions may be related to the text. I am highlighting the word may which means the person could ask you question out of the text. So be sure to think out of the box.

As for me, I was given an article. The first paragraph is about to take yourself a break instead of focusing on something continuously. such as study ; you are likely to be succeed if you study then stop for a while to take a walk and back to your study back compared to study non-stop. the second paragraph is about how important sleeping and eating habits are. The third is about stress can also be good to you sometimes as it generates your idea blah blah I couldn't remember much.

after the 5 minutes ended, the questions are :

1. what is the text about? - this is quite tricky to be honest because the text given can be confusing as the point in first paragraph is hardly related to the next. I advice you to just point out the main point from each paragraph even if it seems like there is no coherence. 
2. choose one of the highlighted word. Give the meaning and an example sentence. - I forgot to mention earlier. In the text, there would be highlighted words and in my case, I got three ; cloudy, ancient and apatah lagi satu.. and I chose cloudy.
3. what would you do when you are stress?
4. How do you avoid stress?

and that was it for amali ... lets move on.

• TEMUDUGA

For this session, you'll be divided into groups consisting of 6-7 people. In bilik temuduga, a whiteboard, marker pens, duster and chairs are provided. 2 interviewers will interview each person in the group one by one. I don't think there are specific questions. It is all up to the interviewers to ask you what kind and how much questions.

The questions I got :

1. Tell me about yourself
2. Did you get any offer letter from any university?if you are selected to further your study in IPG, which offer will you accept ; the university or IPG - masa ni UPU result baru keluar, so paham-paham la.
3. What is pembelajaran abad ke-21? - I don't remember exactly the question but it sounded like that la lebih kurang.. and the question is different with other people in my group. Ada yang kena tanya pendapat tentang kebaikan telefon dalam pembelajaran memandangkan kerajaan mempertimbangkan untuk membenarkan murid bawa telefon ke sekolah. Ada yang kena tanya pasal Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah (PBS) dan Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT).
4. What is your hobby?
5. Are you willing to be posted to rural area of Sabah or Sarawak ?

Then, your group will be given a task and need to discuss it. The interviewers will watch you as you discuss and won't interrupt. They will analyze whether you are a team player or not as you give your idea. Remember to not control the discussion. After the discussion, your group need to present the ideas. The presentation is not compulsory though, usually if there is still plenty of time, they will ask you to do so. You can use the whiteboard and marker pens.

And that is all. Phase 2 of IPG interviews complete.

I don't know if I am qualified enough to get into IPG. But I'm still going to give you tips that I think will help you throughout the interview.

• Get all your documents done! this is very important because the interviewers can give you low marks in sahsiah for this. Make sure to re-check everything. Bring along all the things they stated in the letter you get. Things you need to photocopied must be verified.
• Be friendly with your teammates. This surely will help you to go through sesi temuduga.
• Cakap kuat sikit ! if not you'll be shadowed by your teammates. Be active in giving ideas and preferences.
• Masa sesi amali, keep yourself calm. I know how scary it is to sit alone face to face with the interviewer, but remember to smile.
• Use your five minutes to read it slowly and make sure to fully understand it. 5 minutes is long enough for you to re-read 3-4 times.
• Focus on the highlighted words in the text. They must have highlighted it for reason !
• Its best for you to look up for national educational philosophy,vision and mission of Ministry of Education. You can find these at MOE website. Dude.. we have internet right? use wisely, search for inspirations about teaching so that you have things to talk about and not startle in the interviews.
• No matter what you wear, make sure it to be neat and appropriate for the profession. Best to avoid bawal yang ada bulu-bulu kat hujung tu..apatah nama dia.
